Harry W. Lasater House, Corning
From the Clay County Courier:
"The Harry W. Lasater home on Second Street had just been completed and the owner of it was so filled with pride that a picture had to be made. The house boasted the latest advancement of the era, electric lights powered by the Sheeks Light Plant. The chandeliers that had been installed were conversation pieces and were so noted by the secretary of the Corning Culture Club when the organization was entertained in the home. Green shutters at the windows and flower urns in the front yard were additional touches of elegance as was the entrance walk.
Tragedy struck the Lasater home shortly after this picture was made. Mrs. Lasater died after the birth of the first born son, James Lasater. Lasater had already buried his first wife and the loss of the second wife ended his marital career. The home became a rent house in latter years. It was finally bought by John Shaver and was the Shaver home until his death. It was razed during the late 1950s to provide added space for the Buel Smith Ford Company."
