Gage Blacksmith Shop on the Court Square
by J. M. Oliver, Jr.
"Blacksmith shops were necessities in the horse era and no one considered it odd for such a place of business to occupy a site just next to the Dudgeon Livery Stable on the southeast corner of the town square. D. N. Gage, the proprietor on the left, guaranteed a professional job of horse shoeing and the animal who has been fitted with two pairs of D. N. Gage footwear reflects the comfort and satisfaction he feels. The owner is not identified nor are the lads who had every boy's sense that informed them when a photographer was about to shoot a scene...
"The blacksmith shop has vanished long since but the white frame that is to be seen on the West is still serving as a rent house."
