Corning Butcher Shop, 1905
From the Clay County Courier:
"The above is a picture of the A. D. Downs, Sr. butcher shop, around 1905. It was located in the old frame Bishop building on Second Street and Downs is the young proprietor with the knife in hand.
Posed on the stools are early morning customers: twenty-five cents worth of steak was a customary breakfast item in that era. The one on the left is identified as Norris Ousnamer. Later in the morning, carcasses of beef and pork would be hung on the wall hooks and housewives would be down to select their roasts, etc. for dinner and supper."
