The A. L. Browne Home of the First Decade
"The Browne Home occupied the southwest corner of Harb at Polk and its wide
veranda and white columns were typical of a pre-airconditioning [sic] when a
front porch and a palm leaf fan provided the maximum in relief from the Corning
Summer weather.
"Then an overheated flue ignited the attic. The fire had gained such headway when discovered that local citizens could do noghing [sic] but save the household furnishings. The home was replaced with a two-story frame that still stands on the corner."
