Balloon in Corning, AR.  “1912 Balloon Ascension in Corning in 1912”.  From copy.  (Akers).  "In the first decade of the 20th century, when the site of The Corning Bank was still a vacant lot on Second and Vine, the space-minded merchants of that generation sponsored one or more balloon ascensions as a trade drawing card on Saturday afternoons.

"Ready to ascend in a few minutes will be a native son of Corning, the intrepid daredevil baloon ascentionist [sic], Roy Dunnigan.  After the balloon had lost enough air to begin descent, Roy would cut loose and descend in his parachute.

"The background, across the street, affords a historic view of the business section below Vine.  R. E. Hawks had erected the modern brick in 1910, moving the old Bishop building that had occupied the corner since 1894."
