First National Bank, Corning, AR, mid-1920s.  (Franklin H. Cochran).

"Competition between the two local financial institutions was spirited and when The Corning Bank announced plans to build a new facility at the corner of West Vine and Second, the board of the First National felt compelled to renovate the interior of their bank on West Second at Hop Alley.  The lobby was enlarged, floored with tile.  The latest in wood bank cages was installed, plus lobby accessories such as drapes and Venetian blinds.

"Lined up from left to right, Miss Evelyn Nester, Glendean Blakeney, Mona Lindsey, Cashier Sterling Lindsey and tellers Sylvan Dailey and O. J. Harold.

"The banks merged in the early 30's [sic] at the beginning of the depression that ruined the economy of America until World War Two."
