WW II Ship bares the county's name. In accordance with a Secretary of the Navy directive dated 12 May 1955, USS LST 519 was renamed USS Calhoun County (LST 519) effective 1 July 1955. The 519 is the first ship with this name. The name honors a Calhoun County located in each of eleven states--Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and West Virginia. |

Photo by Hyungwon Kang / Reuters Harry Z. Thomason was born in Hampton, Arkansas, the son of a Baptist Deacon. He was a Little Rock, Arkansas high school speech teacher and football coach. In 1983 Thomason and his wife formed Mozark Productions which was the vehicle for several successful television series including Designing Women and Evening Shade. He is a Director, Writer & Producer he is married to the multi-talented Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. He is also written the screenplay and directed the movie The Hunting of the President. The couple are long time friends of former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton.
