The Library has a very good genealogy section with all Arkansas Census Records and many of the surrounding states. They have archives for the Pine Bluff Commercial and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette on microfilm. Their Arkansas County selections is very thorough. Resources for surrounding states is good as well. There is much more and well worth a visit!

Shreve Memorial Library has its main branch, with third floor devoted to genealogy, government documents and special collections. This is one of the most extensive genealogy deposits in the ARK-LA-TEX region. They have almost a complete set of the United States Census dating back to 1790 for most states including indexes and Soundex. They house a microfilm collection of Civil War Soldier Records. In addition they have Parish Records for most of Louisiana.

Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives was founded in 1978 and became a nonprofit organization in 1980.

The Archives is a central clearing house for archival material from twelve counties in southwest Arkansas: Columbia, Howard, Hempstead, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Polk, Sevier, and Union. It is governed by a Board of Directors composed of two representatives from each of the twelve counties.

As a nonprofit organization, they are dependent on donations from the public.
Also, they have received a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.  The name of the grant is "A Searchable Database of all Schools since Arkansas Statehood in 1836 in 12 SW AR Counties."
