 Will of Edward Crawford	

     In the Name of God, Amen
         I, Edward Crawford of Chester District being of sound, and disposing
mind memory and understanding, and considering that is is the ordinances of
heaven that all men are born to die, I deem it my duty to make and ordain 
the following to be my last will and testament.  In the first place i resign
my body to the dust whence it derived its existence by the power of God, and
my soul to God who gave it.  In the hope that the body shall be reanimated
and agina united to the soul, be prepared for the full enjoyment of God 
through all eternity, by virtue of the Redemption by Jesus Christ the son
of God and Savier of men.

   In the Second place, it is my will that that portion of earthly property
which it has pleased an indulgent providence to commit to my care be divided
in the following manner.

     Viz Imprimis:  To my beloved son James Crawford I will and bequeath the
following negroes.  Viz: Eliza and her children, Alexander, James, Taylor 
and Haywood, William & James, sons of old May with their future increases, 
to him and his heirs forever. 

    Item:  To my son David C. Crawford I will and bequeath the following 
negroes viz.  Becky and her children, Harry, John, & Reuben, Isaac, Matilda,
Peter and Old Harry with their future increase to him and his heirs, forever.

    Item: To my sons, James I. Crawford and David C. Crawford I will, bequeath,
and devise the following negroes.  Viz:  Old May, Nancy, Betty, Thomas, Giddon,
Austen and Martha with their future increases and also the plantation on tract
of land on which my son in law Samuel Boyd is now living to be by them held in
trust for the sole use of my beloved daughter Isabella F. Boyd and her children
for and during the term of their natural life of my said daughter, and at her
death the said negroes together with any children, which they may have and have
at the time of the death of my said daughter Isabella, and also the said tract
of land devised a aforesaid in this clause shall vest in the children of my 
said daughter, Isabella absolutely and the trust shall then terminate and if
any of the children of my said daughter Isabella, should die leaving children
then it is my will that they do take the share to which the parent would have
been entitled.  
   
   Item:  To my beloved daughter Jane Clementine Gibbs I will and bequeath
the following negroes..  Viz..  Rachel and her children, Sarah, Amey and 
Rebecca, Mary and her child, Madison, Henry and Esther, with their future
increase to her and her heirs, forever.
  
    Item:   To my grand daughter Minerva Jane Boyd I will and bequeath a 
negro girl Harriett, And should my said grand daughter die without leaving 
children, then I will that said girl Harriett with her issue shall go to 
the brothers and sisters of the said Jane Clementine Gibbs.

    Item:   To my grand daughter Mary Jane Crawford I will and bequeath a 
negro girl  Cecily and should my said grand daughter die without having 
children then I will that said girl Cecily and her issue shall go to the 
brothers and sisters of the said Mary Jane Crawford.

    Item:  To my grandson Edward Crawford, son of James Crawford, I will 
and bequeath a negro girl named Mary Jane to him and his heirs forever.

    Item:  To my grandson  Edward Crawford Gibbs I will and bequeath a negro
girl Vicy to him and his heirs forever.
 
    Item:  To my grandson James Edward Boyd I will and bequeath a negro boy
named Henry, son of Martha, to him and his heirs forever.
 
    Item:  To my grandson Edward, son of David C. Crawford, I will and 
bequeath a negro girl, Caroline to him and his heirs forever.

    Item:  To my son David B. Crawford, I will and bequeath the plantation
on tract of land of which he has now possession on the East side of big 
fishing Creek which I purchased of Thomas McLane to him and his heirs forever.

   Item:  It is my will that my son James D. Crawford shall have the plantation
on tract of land in which I now reside.  Including the piece purchased from
Alexander Pagan at the rate of four dollars per acre.  The proceeds to be
disposed in the following manner.  Hereinafter mentioned at the same time
paying a reasonable price for my share of the thrasher and gin, and if he
do not see fit -- to take the land on the above terms, that it be sold and
the prceeds appropriated in the manner herein after mentioned.

    Item:  It is my will that my son James I. Crawford and David C. Crawford
pay each the sum of fifty dollars to the use of my neice Salena Davison her
and her heirs if she have any forever.
   
    Item:  All the Rest and Residue of my Estate both real and personal I
desire to be sold by my Executors on such terms as they may think most 
reasonable, and out of the proceeds thereof, to procure becoming head and
foot stones to the graves of my then deceased sons, my wife and myself are
to pay all my just debts and the remainder if any to be equally divided
amongst all my children, have and share alike.

    Lastly, I nominate, constitute, and appoint my son James D. Crawford
and David C. Crawford Executors of this my last will and testament hereby
revoking all others.

    In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixth 
day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and 
forty five.

    Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Edward Crawford
to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereinto
subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the testator and at 
his request.

Chester District 
   In the court of ordinary April 30, 1845.  Personally came Alexander 
Pagan in Open Court who upon being duly sworn saith upon oath that he 
was present and saw Edward Crawford, within named, sign, seal, publish, 
pronounces and declare the within writing to be and contain the last 
will and testament of the said Edward Crawford and the deponent further 
saith that the said Edward Crawford was of sound disposing mind memory 
and understanding to the best of this deponents knowledge and belief 
and farther saith, he this diponent with Robert Pagen & James R. Gillard
did subscribe their names as witnesses thereto in the presence of each
other and in the presence of the testator and at his request.

I, William H. Anderson, Ordinary in and for the district of Chester in 
the state aforesaid do hereby certify that the foregoing 5 pages contain 
a true copy of the record of Edward Crawford will in the same now appears
of Record in my office.  In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and
affix the seal of the said court at Chester Court Houe this 9th Day of
Sept. A. D. 1862.  Wm. H.  Anderson O. C. D.

   I Charles H. Seay Clerk of the Circuit court and ex officio clerk
of the probate court in and for the county and state aforesaid do hereof
certify that the annexed & foregoing instrument of writing now filed in
my office for record on the 22nd day of December A. D. 1862 and that 
the same together with the certificates thereto annexed are now duly
recorded in Record Book of Wills page 19 & 20

this 15th day January 1863.
