History:

The historic Wheeler Springs Methodist Church is located a short distance from the northern boundary of Bradley County on Highway 8 --the New Edinburg Road.
Methodists who settled in this area originally worshipped in a log building that was located near Scobey Creek near the present site of Richard's Grocery, formerly the Edna Williams Grocery.
The Wheeler Springs Church building was erected shortly before the turn of the century. It faced north on what was then the Warren-Kingsland road. When the highway was built between Warren and Fordyce, the church was remodeled so that it faced toward the highway.
The Church was build by a group of laymen including Bob Beard, Madison Thompson, Pink Neal, and Pete Saunders. All dressed lumber used in the structure was finished by hand. The Church pews, which are home-made, are put together with square nails.
The Neal family donated an organ to the Church, and this later was traded in for a piano that is currently used for services.
The Beard Plair, Thompson, Neal and Saunders families were staunch members of the Church as were the Wynnes, who resided at Orlando. These were the grandparents of Dr. G. F. Wynne of Warren and Prosecutor Frank Wynne of Fordyce.
The Church Cemetery is located to the north, and is the resting place of many of the former members.
The Church is currently indebted to Mrs. Jack Free of Gould for the donation of a Church Marker. The marker was installed in front of the Church two years. ago.
