Born 1838 York County, South Carolina; Died 1892, Bradley County, Arkansas, Enlisted in CO. H, York Dist, 
SC on May 1862, in the 18th SC Regiment; surrendered at Appomatox, VA, with General Robert E. Lee April 9, 1865.
Served in the Arkansas Legislature in 1893.

He was the son of William Andrew Barry and Eliza A. Watson. His father owned several slaves in York County, 
South Carolina. William Andrew Barry fought at King's Mountain against the British during America's War 
for Independence from England.  He also signed the Meclanburg Declaration of Independence.

William Thomas Barry had seven brothers and sisters, most of whom have descendants still living in the Carolinas.
The Barry line is of Scotch-Irish descent and goes back to Ireland and Scotland.

He married Mary Jane Pierce, the daughter of James and Mary Pierce in 1859.  

William Thomas Barry also had seven children. Five are buried in Bradley County, Arkansas and two of the sons, 
David and John Barry, who moved to Granger, Texas in the late 1800's are buried in Williamson County, Texas.  

Nettie Barry married William Washington Owens in 1904 to which five children were born and at this time there
is one surviving daughter.

The Owens Farm at Farmville was my grandmother's from William Thomas Barry, her father, and has been in the 
family for over 100 years. It is now owned by my cousin Sandra Outlaw of Pine Bluff.
