EDWARD N. JOHNSON FAMILY HISTORY:
"Zechariah Johnson, a Protestant of Scots decent, was born in Ireland in 1740. By the time he was 19,
he had crossed the ocean, settled in South Carolina, married (name unknown) and in 1759 became the
father of a son, Shadrach Johnson. Shadrach had a son named William L. Johnson, who was born about
1775, in S.C. He married a woman named Johanna (last name unknown), and in his middle to later years
moved to Choctaw County, Mississippi."

Edward N. Johnson was born May 30, 1848 and died Dec 18, 1904.
He enlisted in Company "H" McNair's Brigade Arkansas Infantry serving from 1863 - 1865.
(Military record from Jann Woodard Civil War Records) He received a 120 acre Homestead
in the Jersey area of Bradley County. President Grover Cleveland signed the deed on January 2, 1895.
He married Martha Jane Woodruff on Sept.2, 1875 recorded in Book B, page 185, Bradley County,
Arkansas. Martha was born June 11, 1849 and died Oct 7, 1915. All their children were born in
Bradley County. They are enumerated on the 1900 Arkansas Census there:

Edward N. Johnson and Martha Jane Woodruff Johnson had the following children:
Harvey F. Johnson born August 1876 and married Nora Belle Brooks on Jan.19, 1899
in Bradley County; he later remarried.
Thomas Benjamin Johnson was born 1878 and married Della M. Ferguson, born July 1880
Mary A. Johnson was born March of 1881
William Fred Johnson was born May 11, 1884 and died Dec 25, 1918.
James S. Johnson was born June 1888 and married Alice Haygood.
They are all buried in Union Hill Cemetery. Buried on the left of Edward is his son Harvey F. Johnson;
only the years are on his headstone, 1876 - 1955. Martha is beside Edward on the right and on the other
side of Martha is their son William Fred Johnson, born May 11, 1884 and died Dec 25, 1918. Beside
Fred is his wife Ruth Ezell Johnson, born Nov. 19, 1883 and died Aug. 14, 1972.
William Fred married Ruth Ezell on October 19,1905 recorded in Book F page 8 in Bradley County, AR.
Ruth Ezell Johnson’s mother, Kate, was Cherokee; married to Cleveland Ezell. They had these children:
Roxie, Emma, Reedie, Cynthia and Ruth.
William Fred died from pneumonia leaving his wife with four children: Ilema, Bernice, Edward Mason and
William Doyle Johnson.
William Doyle was only four years old when his father died. Doyle was born July 30, 1914 and he died
Oct. 17, 1985. He married Myrtis Arlene Smith on July 25, 1936 in the residence of Rev. Grover Corker
in Vick, AR.; recorded in Book P page 339 in Bradley County, AR. He served as a PFC in the US Army
during World War II. They had only one child, Larry Dale Johnson.
